+ How is a Gem Baby born?
The earth’s crust is made up of many different types of rocks. Over long periods of time, many rocks change shape and type as they are transformed by heat, pressure, water, and wind. When rocks are mined to reveal their essential nature, a Gem Baby emerges! Other names include crystals, gemstones, good juju nuggets, earth unicorns, spiritual happy tools, and delicious juicy goodness.
Though PrinEle Designs started as a handmade gemstone jewelry line, I’d always bring a few of my personal collection of gems to events for the good vibe factor. People would consistently ask if they were for sale, and I’d get so many sad faces when I said no. Something started brewing in my heart, and my next trip to Quartzsite became a choir song of inspiration. I found so many Gem Babies that wanted to be curated and a part of the PrinEle Designs family. I felt their goodness, pure energy, and desire to go home with my PrinEle Lovelies. Today, in addition to our magical jewelry line, PrinEle offers gemstones just waiting to be cherished by their new owners.
+ What is a mala?
The term “mala” is Sanskrit for “meditation garland.” Mala beads are used for a style of meditation called Japa, which means, “to recite.” During meditation or when mindfulness is needed, use the beads of a mala to recite your personal mantra (like “I am enough, I am enough, I am enough.”) 108 times. PrinEle malas have 108 natural gemstone beads, plus one guru bead and a tassel or charm, each of which hold special meaning and significance.
+ What is a mantra?
A mantra is a sound, word or group of words repeated during meditation to help create focus, calm the mind, and support self-transformation.
+ Why 108 beads?
There are many different explanations for why 108 is a sacred number. Some say the number 108 represents one thing, nothing, and everything all at the same time. 1=one, 0= none, 8= infinity, everything
+ What is the significance of the guru bead?
The guru bead, or 109th stone, validates the end of one round in the prayer cycle. It serves as a reminder of the bond between teacher and student. Use the guru bead as a way to show gratitude to all the teachers who have helped you on your path.
+ What is the significance of the tassel?
In traditional Buddhist culture, tassels are symbolic of lotus blossoms, which represent and promote enlightenment.
+ How to use a mala
Some choose to cleanse, energize, and program their mala before meditating with it for the first time. Frankly, I've started a personal tradition that you might like to join. It all starts with a great big bonfire. Zero clothing, just beads. Then, dancing. It must be both energetic and completely calm. Finally, your husband and daughter catch you in the backyard and drag you inside to contemplate your life's decisions. Ok, maybe don't join, but you can follow these more practical tips:
Cleanse + energize There are many ways to cleanse and energize your mala; choose the method that feels right for you. You can cleanse by holding your mala over white sage smoke or place in the soil of a healthy plant or tree. To energize, place your mala in direct sunlight or moonlight for a couple of hours. Malas are powerful spiritual tools and will absorb and carry energy. To keep your mala balanced, it will need to be re-cleansed and re-energized from time to time.
Program To program your mala you must set the intention and choose a mantra for your mala. Ask yourself, “what are my goals?”, “what needs work in my life?” Take a moment and really think it through. Once you’ve honed in on your deepest intention, choose a sound, word, or group of words that clarify your intention into a mantra and can be softly recited during your mala meditation.
Meditate Find a comfortable space, kick off your shoes and sit in a cross-legged position. Close your eyes and observe the speed and depth of your natural breath. Bring your focus and attention to your mantra. Hold your mala in one hand and use your thumb to “count” your mantra recitations. As you complete one recitation, lightly pull the bead toward you and move to the next bead. Keep your index finger extended out, as it is associated with the ego and shouldn’t touch your beads. If you wish to do another round of mantras or affirmations, don’t count the guru bead. Instead, when you arrive at the guru bead, turn the mala around and count in the opposite direction.
If meditation isn’t your thing, that’s okay! PrinEle malas are made with gorgeous, happy gemstones that radiate good vibes and energy. Wear yours as a favorite accessory and strut the streets like a boss!
How to care for your PrinEle pieces
Care for your PrinEle pieces and they will shine! Read on for specific care tips for your jewelry.
+ Mala necklace care
PrinEle mala necklaces are made with nylon cord, natural gemstones, and are hand knotted for extra strength and security. Like any other cherished piece of jewelry, you’ll want to handle your mala with care.
In general, don’t expose your mala to lotion, cosmetics, perfume, and be sure not to exercise, sleep, swim, shower or store in a high moisture area.
If you are using your mala for meditation, it will wear faster.
Many gemstones are soft and will scratch or even crack if dropped or met with hard surfaces.
If your mala breaks, it means the world is ending! Just playin’. A broken mala is not a negative thing, but rather a positive sign of personal growth. Many people believe that a broken mala represents a breakthrough, signifying the end of a cycle or the completion of your original intention. In this context, a broken mala offers you an opportunity to set a new intention. That being said, your happiness is my priority. If your mala breaks within 60 days of purchase I will happily re-knot it free of charge.
+ Stretch bracelet and 108 bead wrist mala care
To prolong the life of your bracelet, do not expose to lotion, cosmetics, perfume, and be sure not to sleep, exercise, shower, swim or store in a high moisture area.
Metal beads and charms: TierraCast makes high quality beads, charms and findings. All TierraCast jewelry components are made with a pewter alloy called Britannia that is lead, cadmium and nickel safe. All castings are electroplated using precious metals: fine silver, 22 karat gold, rhodium or copper. Keep your metal components shiny by following the above care instructions. TierraCast can be lightly polished if tarnished.
Semi-precious stone: Many gemstones are soft and will scratch if they bump against harder stones such as diamonds. When traveling, wrap in a protective cloth.
Stretch cord: I use a very high quality, latex free stretch cord and tie a mean surgeon’s knot. However, if for any reason your bracelet should need restringing— because let's face it, you are going to wear your bracelet in the ocean while doing jet ski yoga— I will be happy to restring it for you.
+ Gold filled + sterling silver jewelry care
- To prolong the life of your gold filled and sterling silver jewelry, do not expose to lotion, cosmetics, perfume, and be sure not to sleep, exercise, shower, swim or store in a high moisture area.
- Gold filled and sterling silver can oxidize or tarnish over time. It's best to store in a plastic bag when not wearing. If tarnishing does occur, use a polishing cloth or mild soapy water to restore its natural luster. Sometimes polishing delicate chain is difficult; your local jeweler may be able to better restore its shine.
- I use .925 silver made in the U.S.
- 14k Gold-filled is a high quality alternative to solid gold. By law, it has 1/20th by weight layer of 14 karat gold permanently bonded over a core of base metal. I use top quality, sturdy 14/20 gold filled sourced from Italy or the U.S. It is hard-wearing and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewelry. It is safe for people with sensitive skin.
+ Plated jewelry care
To prolong the life of your plated jewelry, do not expose to lotion, cosmetics, perfume, and be sure not to sleep, exercise, shower, swim or store in a high moisture area.
Chemicals in cleaning products, jewelry cleansers, body sweat and high body PH levels can break down the plated layer. Once the plated layer is tarnished or rubbed off, the base metal will be exposed and the piece’s original luster cannot be restored.
Do not wash your plated items with anything stronger than warm soapy water.
From clasp to wire wrap, I use 14k gold-filled and sterling silver to secure all of my plated jewelry designs.

I source my plated chain from a U.S. company that uses the highest quality hypoallergenic brass and the finest electroplating technology to achieve an anti-tarnish finish. It is lead, cadmium and nickel safe.
I hand apply an anti-tarnish coating to all other plated components.
